September 2018 Newsletter

Welcome to September!

What else is going on? Last month was the deadline for our first ever Open Call for Projects for our grant program, and I missed sending you all an update because we were overwhelmed with 287 -- 287! -- project submissions.

Years ago I used to tell myself that the Effing Foundation needs to exist because this type of work is so important and yet so hard to find funding for, and nothing has demonstrated that to me more than reading through those 287 submissions.

With the help of our Treasurer, Julia, I processed the submissions and passed them along to our Advisory Council, who helped narrow them down to the 18 projects that were invited to submit full applications. We've got books, a podcast, a zine, and even some live-action role play (LARP), to name just a few. We're also on track to meet our demographic goals, including 60% of our grant dollars going to projects led by all people of color.

Even after weeding out the projects that weren't in line with our mission, we still had (literally) tens of fabulous ideas to sort through to get down to the final 18. As I told the folks who weren't selected: not being accepted says a lot more about us than it does about you. Right now the Effing Foundation is young and small, and we're limited in how much funding we can offer.

The huge response to our Open Call shows that there's a real demand for our work, and with your help we'll bring life to even more of these amazing sex-positive initiatives.

Thank you for your support and encouragement as we continue to bring more sex-positive art and education into the world!

Peace,
Kit Stubbs, Ph.D.
